Touring properties
Looking at properties is exciting! But it often feels overwhelming to take in so much information all at once—especially if there is a looming offer deadline! Here are some “Do’s and Don’ts” to make the most of your property tours!
DO’s:
Assume you are on camera. Hold off on sensitive conversation until you exit.
Know your search criteria and dealbreakers upfront. Don’t spend your energy trying to figure this out for each property you view.
Start on the outside. Weather permitting, walk around the exterior to get a feel for the lot and surroundings.
Note factors that could negatively impact resale. If something is a concern for you, it will likely be a concern for someone else down the road.
Note repair and maintenance items. Make a list of items that need to be addressed in the short term and take these items into consideration when writing an offer.
Be respectful. Wipe your feet, close and lock all doors and leave the house as you found it.
DON’Ts:
Invest your time on a showing if you determine the exterior, lot or surrounding area is unacceptable
Eat, drink or use the restroom
qConduct a home inspection. Showings are for visual inspection only and attics or crawl spaces should not be accessed without prior permission.
Allow children to tour the home unaccompanied
